Powerful Claymore bomb making cases found inside Garo Hills forest

TURA, Dec 14: South Garo Hills Police has taken out a large cache of Claymore cases used to mix and prepare Improvised explosive devices that were kept hidden in plastic bags and buried underground inside a forest in Dambuk forest of South Garo Hills on Wednesday.
A total of 11 claymore mine casings were found by police based on intelligence sources of its presence.

The explosives which can be turned into Improvised Explosive Devices cause extensive damage to vehicles and humans.

It is a favourite of militant groups to use for targetting security forces since it can be detonated even remotely.

The banned GNLA outfit was infamous for having a sizeable arsenal of these explosives which were used with devastating effect on security forces.

Its former chief Sohan D Shira had concealed dozens of such mines and other explosives all across the rebel stronghold of Durama hills in East Garo Hills as well the Rongara Dambuk area of South Garo Hills.

The Maoist rebel groups in central India, ULFA in Assam and other north east groups are also known for its use.
