Tura, Dec 21: The Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Jagdish Chelani, led a crucial meeting alongside John F. Kharsing, President of MSOA, and various stakeholders to discuss the preparedness for the 2024 Meghalaya Games to be hosted in Tura for the first time. The meeting involved 15 committees, covering aspects such as finance, ceremonies, accreditation, accommodation, catering, and media, all working collaboratively to ensure the success of the upcoming games.
During the meeting, challenges related to welcome and closing ceremonies, traffic management, volunteers, and transportation of athletes were thoroughly reviewed.
Speaking to Hub News DC, she said “We have done very good groundwork at this point in time. We have even minutely planned out which person to go where and how to do it. For all the committees that we have. We have over 16 committees now. And each of these committees has also designated works from the very first day, so I’m very positive that we will have very good Meghalaya Games conducted.”
When asked how the administration will handle the traffic, he said, “The traffic issue was one of the top concerns, and we have come up with a solution to it. To minimise the traffic congestion during the games, the players for the respective sports events will be accommodated near the venue where they need to play. For example, the 2nd MLP Battalion will host shooting, so the participants will be accommodated nearby. So the competition venue and accommodation venue won’t be far away. This goes the same for most of the sports categories.”
John Kharshiing, President, MSOA, while speaking to Hub News, said, “All the committees today are more or less almost prepared. Last minute fine tuning is here, and there is happening. But we are almost through; we are all prepared. We have 22 sports all together; 20 will be competition sports and 2 will be demonstration sports.”
