SHILLONG, Sept 7: President of India Droupadi Murmu is likely to visit Meghalaya and other states of the North East region this month.
This was informed by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday.
“We have not got a written communication on the dates yet. I have already obviously asked and requested her to come to Meghalaya. It was on that day when the communication came to us that there’s a chance that she may be coming. We were told the second week of September but…I would refrain from saying anything because it’s really not my jurisdiction but yes there is definitely talk that the president is coming to the north east,” he told reporters.
He said the communication that came to the state had asked the government for a list of projects that could be inaugurated by the President.
“In that list we had put the Crowborough Hotel (but) we have got an unofficial input that private properties they would like to avoid and they would like to go for government projects,” he said.
Due to this, the proposed inauguration of the Crowborough hotel on September 7, has been postponed to next week, Sangma said while assuring that it will be inaugurated before the conclusion of the upcoming autumn session of the Assembly.
