Shillong, July 7: Seven prominent pressure groups of Meghalaya have sought for a special appointment with the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah during his visit to the State later this month to discuss the demand for implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.
A letter in this regard was submitted to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday.
The NGOs include the Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People (FKJGP), Khasi students’ Union (KSU), Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), Ri-Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF), A’chik Youth Welfare Organization (AYWO), and Association for Democracy & Empowerment (ADE).
“(We) request you to make a special appointment with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah so that the prominent pressure groups of the state could get a chance to discuss issues like implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) and some important issues concerning the indigenous people of the state during his visit,” they said in the letter.
Union Home Minister is expected to visit the state on July 17.
