Priyanka Gandhi promises free treatment up to Rs 10 lakh in UP; takes dig at Yogi govt

Uttar Pradesh, Oct 25: In a major poll promise ahead of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi has announced that the party will provide free treatment and healthcare facilities up to Rs 10 lakh upon government formation in the state.

In a tweet, Priyanka Gandhi said, “Everyone saw the dilapidated condition of the health system in UP during the Covid-19 pandemic, which is a result of the apathy and neglect of the current government. With the consent of the Manifesto Committee, the UP Congress has decided that when it forms the government in UP, any disease will be treated free of cost. The government will bear expenses up to Rs 10 lakh.”


Earlier, Priyanka Gandhi had flagged off the Congress “Pratigya Yatras” from Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki with seven promises, including loan waiver for farmers and jobs for 20 lakh people if voted to power in next year’s Assembly polls.

Congress has also promised the purchase of wheat and paddy at Rs 2,500 per quintal and Rs 400 per quintal for sugarcane. Besides jobs to 20 lakh people, the Congress leader said if voted to power in the state, her party will “halve electricity bill of all”.

The party also reiterated that it will give smartphones to Class 12 pass girls and e-scooters to graduate girls if voted to power.

The party said it will give Rs 25,000 to families who faced financial crunch due to the Covid crisis. Priyanka promised a separate manifesto for women in a week’s time and stressed that their participation in politics is necessary.
