Protest in Agartala demanding release of Hindu priest arrested in Bangladesh

Agartala, Nov 27: Hindutva activists and social workers staged a candlelight protest on Tuesday evening in front of Ujjayanta Palace, Agartala, demanding the immediate and unconditional release of Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, who was arrested in Bangladesh on sedition charges.

The protesters alleged that the priest, known as the “voice of Sanatani Hindus” in Bangladesh, was detained by the caretaker government led by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus after urging Hindus in the country to remain united.

Biplab Kanti Bhowmik, founder of the social organization ‘Srestha Bhubon Samajik Sanstha,’ condemned the arrest as “barbaric and unacceptable.” He stated, “Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari was illegally taken from Dhaka Airport to Chittagong, where he was presented in court. Instead of granting bail, the Sanatani Hindus gathered there were assaulted by soldiers of the caretaker government.”

Bhowmik urged all Sanatani Hindus in Tripura to rise against the “illegal” detention and called for the immediate release of the priest, who is also affiliated with ISKCON Bangladesh.

ISKCON Bangladesh’s Secretary General, Charu Chanda Das Brahmachari, has also condemned the arrest, describing it as a severe violation of religious freedom.

The protest, held at the historic Ujjayanta Palace, formerly the royal residence of Tripura’s Manikya dynasty and now a museum, reflected growing tensions and demands for religious tolerance across borders.
