Protest rally in EJH’s Tuber Kmai Chnong against assault on village leaders

Shillong, Jan 10: The Dorbar Chnong of Tuber Kmai Chnong Village of East Jaiñtia Hills organised a rally on Wednesday to protest the attack committed by one Training Phawa against the Waheh Chnong (Headman), Micky Lyngdoh, and the Chairman of the Village, Denis Lyngdoh.

On the evening of January 3, a scuffle broke out at the village between two parties, and the village elders were informed. After a while, the accused, Training Phawa, picked up an axe and started attacking the headman and secretary, injuring both of them. The duo were taken to Jowai Civil Hospital, and later we’re referred to Supercare Hospital, Shillong.

It was informed that Training Phawa is a member of an NGO and is the Finance Secretary of the Jaiñtia National Council.

Hundreds of villagers participated in the rally on Wednesday, and they were seen carrying black flags and placards condemning Phawa for his assault and attempting to take the lives of the village heads.

Prior to the rally, a short gathering was held where Waheh Chnong and Micky Lyngdoh narrated the ordeal of the incident on the 3rd evening.

Others who spoke were the General Secretary of the village, T. Phawa, the Secretary of the VDP, M. Phawa, and the former Waheh Chnong, MB Sana, and all condemned the actions of Training Phawa and called for the villagers to respect the village elders and officials.
