Agartala/ Guwahati Dec 3: Massive protests erupted in Agartala on Tuesday as part of the ‘Bangladesh Chalo’ movement, with thousands of demonstrators rallying against the arrest of Hindu spiritual leader Chinmoy Prabhu and the alleged persecution of religious minorities in Bangladesh.
Protesters, carrying placards and banners, demanded an immediate end to what they described as “atrocities” against Hindus and other minority groups in Bangladesh.
“Our religious places have been attacked and vandalized by fundamentalists. The Chakma people in Chittagong are being targeted by the army and police. Chinmoy Das, who bravely spoke out against these atrocities, was unjustly arrested and jailed,” said a protester.
He further warned, “If the Indian government asks us to move to Bangladesh, we will take whatever we can and go, but we demand an immediate halt to this violence.”
The protest, organized by the Sanatani Yuva, began in front of Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan and wound through the streets of Agartala. Prominent leaders, including former Union Minister of State Pratima Bhoumik, joined the march, amplifying calls for justice and action from the Bangladeshi government.
In solidarity with the protest, the All Tripura Hotel and Restaurant Owners’ Association (ATHROA) announced a boycott of Bangladeshi nationals, deciding in a Monday night meeting to deny them accommodation and services until the situation improves.
The ongoing protests underscore rising tensions and a demand for stronger intervention to protect religious minorities in Bangladesh.
Massive Protest in Guwahati
A massive protest was held in the heart of Guwahati today, with hundreds of demonstrators voicing their outrage against the reported atrocities faced by Hindus in Bangladesh. The protesters raised slogans such as “Mohd Yunus Hai Hai” and “Save Hindus,” highlighting their demand for immediate intervention to safeguard the minority Hindu community across the border.
The protest, organized by various social and political groups, witnessed significant participation from citizens expressing solidarity with the affected Hindu population in Bangladesh. The issue has gained traction following recent reports of declining Hindu population figures and alleged targeted violence against the community.
Ratna Singh, spokesperson for the Assam BJP, addressed the media during the demonstration, emphasizing the urgent need to address this humanitarian crisis. In her statement, she said, “The Hindu population in Bangladesh has been steadily declining due to systematic atrocities. This is a matter of grave concern not only for Assam but for India as a whole. We stand with our Hindu brothers and sisters in Bangladesh and urge the central government to take this issue up diplomatically.”
The protesters also called for stricter measures to ensure the safety of minorities in Bangladesh and urged the international community to hold the Bangladeshi government accountable for protecting its Hindu population.
