Agartala, May 11: On Thursday, various organisation including students and women bodies staged protest against the kidnaping and gang-rape of a college student in Tripura.
According to reports, the condition of the girl, who is undergoing treatment at the government-run Govind Ballabh Pant Medical College and Hospital, is stated to be “very critical”.
The 20-year-old college student was kidnapped on Monday afternoon when she was returning from her college in the outskirts of the city.
Meanwhile, Tripura police arrested the accused Gautam Sharma and another person Sudip Chettri on Wednesday night and Thursday.
“During the raid, the involved vehicle and cash amount of Rs 90 lakh have been seized from the house of one of the accused persons – Prasanjit Paul, who managed to flee before the search in his house,” said a police official.
According to police, the victim was recovered from an abandoned place along the bypass road late Monday night and was taken to a hospital, where her condition is stated to be ‘very critical’.
The victim’s mother said that her daughter was returning home when driver Gautam offered her a lift.
There were three others in the vehicle, the girl’s mother said and alleged that all the four people, including the driver, gang-raped the girl inside the moving vehicle and abandoned her along the bypass road.
Additional special teams have been formed and raids are going on in various parts of the state to nab the involved accused persons and to gather more evidence by using scientific aids. The investigation in the case is in progress.
