Shillong, June 30: Urging the state government to consider the health of students as top priority, Congress legislator from Mawlai, P.T. Sawkmie has sought postponing of re-examination for Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) and Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) of Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) as the Covid-19 pandemic situation is still perilous.
“To conduct re-examination for those who missed the HSSLC and SSLC exams is not appropriate in such times of COVID-19 pandemic. The government may postpone for some time as the situation is still not favourable…,” Sawkmie said.
His appeal comes a day after the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) announced its decision to hold the HSSLC and SSLC re-examinations from July 9 to 16.
He said that the government should find other options and solutions to help the students in one way or the other.
The MLA also added that it is understandable that the students have suffered a lot till date since last year but health is more important and should be considered as top priority.
He further stated that other states in the country have postponed and even cancelled the examinations because of the pandemic so as to curb the spread of the disease.
“Therefore, the education department may reconsider postponement of the exams for the well-being of the students and the people of the state as a whole,” Sawkmie said.
