Shillong, March 8: People’s Democratic Front (PDF) president Gavin M Mylliem on Wednesday said being a public representative is not only to become a minister.

He was responding to a query on the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma’s failure to accommodate the PDF in his cabinet.

Mylliem said the PDF is not feeling bad about Sangma’s decision because it was late in extending support to the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance – II government.

“As public representatives, it is not only to become ministers but we are here to serve the people in different capacities,” he maintained.

He said that the PDF has decided to support the MDA-II government based on the request of the chief minister. The PDF president said that the chief minister had assured to accommodate the party legislators in the government. He, however, said there has been no discussion to accommodate the party in the cabinet.

When asked if the party had somehow missed the bus, Mylliem however said, “We were late in extending our support to the government. Had we immediately extended our support we would have been (part of the cabinet).”

Further, he said the PDF will work together with the government for the growth and prosperity of the state.

“We will work and continue to raise issues to improve the functioning of the government in the interest of the people and the state,” he added.
