Dibrugarh, March 18: The Punjab Police secured the custody of two more Waris Punjab De members lodged in Dibrugarh Central Jail on Tuesday.
The Punjab Police team took custody of Waris Punjab De members Daljeet Singh Kalsi and Basant Singh after obtaining permission from the local court.
With this, the total number of Waris Punjab De members taken into custody by Punjab Police has risen to four. On Monday, the police had taken custody of Gurmeet Singh Bukkanwala and Bhagwant Singh, alias Pradhan Mantri Bajeke.

Sources said the Punjab Police team will apply for the custody and transit remand of three more detainees—Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, Harjeet Singh, and Gurinderpal Singh Aujla—on Wednesday.
Once approved, they will be flown to Punjab under heavy security, escorted by a 25-member Punjab Police team.
The four Waris Punjab De members currently remain in the lock-up at Dibrugarh Police Station.
This development follows the Punjab government’s decision not to re-invoke the National Security Act (NSA) against the seven Waris Punjab De members, whose two-year detention period is set to expire on March 19.

The NSA allows preventive detention without trial for up to 12 months, extendable if deemed necessary. However, once in Punjab, all seven will be formally arrested and face trial for their alleged involvement in the Ajnala police station attack.
Meanwhile, three Waris Punjab De members—including its chief Amritpal Singh, along with Varinder Singh Johal and Papalpreet Singh—will continue to remain in Dibrugarh Central Jail.
