Tura, Oct 27: An elderly woman who had been abandoned by her family and took shelter in empty spaces for refuge shockingly lost her life after her legs were ripped apart by a boulder truck that hit her on Monday night.

According to police sources, the boulder truck, coming from Dalu towards Mahendraganj, was travelling on the wrong side of the road when the accident took place.

The 70-plus-year old woman was left in shock and excessively bleeding on the road when people rushed to the scene on hearing her screams. Though she was referred to Tura civil hospital, sadly, she passed away on the road before reaching Ampati.

The incident caused a lot of anger among the people of the area who attacked the boulder truck and set it on fire. The driver escaped the mob fury after surrendering himself to police at Purakhasia.

This is the third major incident on the same road in which three persons have lost their lives due to reckless driving by boulder trucks. Two months ago, a five-year-old boy was crushed to death by another similar truck and earlier, a motorcycle rider was also killed when his vehicle collided with another such truck.
