‘Question to investigate USTM does not arise’; Rakkam refuse to comment on Haque’s arrest

Must read

Shillong, Feb 25: Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma today refused to comment on the arrest of USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Haque.

Reacting on Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s allegation on fake degree offered by USTM, the minister said, “I have nothing to comment, but USTM is ours. It is within our Meghalaya, and it’s mandated by our assembly. So it is…, that’s all.”

When asked, if the government had sought any reports on the allegations of fake degrees, the minister clarified that chancellor Hoque has been arrested for ‘some issue’ in Assam, and it is not related to USTM.

He also informed that there is no complaint against USTM and there is no need for any investigation against the university.

“…we are yet to receive any complaint from anybody officially in written, it could have been a different story. But as of now, since there is no official communication from anybody, so the question doesn’t arise as of now,” the minister added.

On the sustained attack on the university by the Assam CM, he refused to react much and summed up by saying, he doesn’t know the ‘subject and grammar’ of the allegation.
