Guwahati, May 2: In a significant move to enhance border security and protect railway infrastructure, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), in close coordination with the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Border Security Force (BSF), has begun joint patrolling operations along sensitive stretches near the India-Bangladesh border.
The joint initiative, launched today, aims to strengthen surveillance along railway routes that run close to the international boundary in Northeast India. The patrolling teams are tasked with monitoring vulnerable sections to prevent tampering, intrusion, or any potential threats to passenger safety and railway assets.

According to NFR sources, the patrolling is being carried out across multiple divisions under the zone, with special attention to sectors adjoining the Bangladesh border. The multi-agency teams are also assessing the readiness of railway safety systems and ensuring real-time response mechanisms are in place.
The development follows increased concerns over illegal cross-border movements. Since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina regime in Bangladesh last year, several Bangladeshi nationals have reportedly been apprehended at railway stations near the border for illegal entry. The region has also long been a known corridor for Rohingya movement between India and Bangladesh.
The joint patrols mark a proactive step towards safeguarding vital transportation links in the border belt, officials said.
