Tura, April 28: Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds lashed Tura and its neighbouring areas early this morning in which a tree has been uprooted which fell and damaged two vehicles in Upper Babupara, opposite the Cenotaph site.
It was reported that the heavy downpour started around 1 am and continued until 6 am, causing disruptions in several parts of the town.
In view of the prevailing weather conditions, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Meghalaya has issued a thunderstorm warning across all districts of the state. The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall over Meghalaya for the next four to five days, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and wind speeds of 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph.
Adding to the alert, the department has warned of a possible thundersquall on April 29, which could further impact normal life across the state.
The IMD has advised residents to remain cautious as thunderstorms with lightning and winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph are expected to occur frequently during this period.
Authorities have urged the public to take necessary precautions and stay updated with weather advisories.
