Tura, July 1: Incessant rains across Garo Hills, since Sunday morning, has led to landslides, road blocks and damages to a few houses in Tura and other parts.
West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Jagdish Chelani told Hub News that one katcha house in Upper Chandmari and another at Deram Gittim has been damaged after landslides and boulders came down from a hillock.
“The damages has been because of the incessant rains since Sunday morning. There has been intense spells of rains for several hours during the period which triggered the landslides,” said DC Chelani.
He also said that as of now the plain belt region has not suffered flooding but one village in Selsella block has been inundated.
“Water has entered peoples homes in Sankarpara village of Selsella, and we have opened up rescue shelters in government schools for the people to take refuge. As of now the situation is under control,” informed the deputy commissioner.

The road between Chitoktak and Gandrak has also been partially blocked by another landslide.
A katcha house in the compound of former North Tura MLA Noverfield Marak sustained considerable damage including to parked vehicles after boulders came down from an adjoining wall due to incessant rains.
