Guwahati, June 26: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday named Rangia MLA, Bhabesh Kalita as the new State President of Assam BJP.

According to a press statement issued by BJP national general secretary, Arun Singh, the appointment was made by BJP National President, Jagat Prakash Nadda.

49-year-old Kalita, who had retained his Rangia seat for the second time after Assam elections 2021, will replace Assam Panchayat and Rural Development Minister, Ranjeet Kumar Dass as the new President of Assam BJP.

“The appointment comes into immediate effect,” mentioned the order.

Ranjeet Dass had served the position of state BJP Assam President since January 30, 2017 and has successfully led the party to victory in 2021 elections.

A party source said his replacement was necessitated after Dass was given ministerial portfolio in the CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s cabinet.
