Must read

Shillong, Jan 27: Meghalaya’s spirited second-innings fightback came to a halt an hour into the final morning of their Ranji Trophy 2024-25 Elite Group A match against Odisha, resulting in a loss by an innings and 56 runs at the MCA Ground in Polo on Sunday.

Starting the day at 221/6, Meghalaya were bowled out for 294—a considerable improvement from their first-innings total of 198. However, it wasn’t enough to overcome Odisha’s commanding 548/7 declared.

Jaskirat Singh Sachdeva provided the highlight of Meghalaya’s innings, showcasing excellent shot selection on his way to a career-best 82 runs off 140 balls, including 12 boundaries. His innings ended when a delivery from Sunil Kumar Roul (4/61) nipped back off the pitch to bowl him out.

Contributions also came from Wanlambok Nongkhlaw, who made 27 from 83 deliveries with two fours, and Dippu Sangma, who added a brisk 21 off 43 balls, including the only six of the innings.

Odisha’s Tapas Kumar Das was named Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance, taking 6/67 in Meghalaya’s first innings and 1/57 in the second.

Meghalaya will conclude their Ranji Trophy season with an away match against Mumbai starting January 30.
