Guwahati, March 31: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced an increase in the maximum chargeable fee for ATM transactions beyond the prescribed free limits, set to take effect from May 1, 2025. Under the new guidelines, banks may charge a maximum of โน23 per transaction once customers exceed their monthly free transaction limits. This move is expected to impact frequent ATM users across the country.
The updated regulations apply to all Scheduled Commercial Banks, Regional Rural Banks (RRBs), Urban Co-operative Banks, State Co-operative Banks, District Central Co-operative Banks, Authorized ATM Network Operators, Card Payment Network Operators, and White Label ATM Operators.

Under the revised framework, customers are entitled to five free transactions (financial and non-financial) per month at their bankโs ATMs. They are also allowed free transactions at ATMs of other banks, with three free transactions in metro centers and five in non-metro centers.
Beyond these free transactions, banks may charge a maximum of โน23 per transaction.
This revision aims to balance operational costs for banks and ATM providers while maintaining accessibility for consumers.
