Shillong, June 6: The Ri Bhoi Watersports and Tourism Cooperative Society Ltd (RBWTCSL) on Monday announced that teams of local kayakers will participate in the Malabar River Festival 2022, to be held from July 22nd to 24th at Calicut, Kerala.
This will be the 8th edition of the Festival, attracting competitors from all over India and abroad. Meghalaya has sent teams on two previous occasions, with Shiningstar Basaiawmoit being adjudged best junior asian paddler, and Elizabeth Vincent winning the women’s slalom.
The Ri Bhoi Watersports and Tourism Cooperative Society Ltd will organise a qualification trials at Umtham White River on June 12 to participate in the Malabar River Festival. The top three men’s and women’s competitors will qualify for the team.
The Society is seeking government sponsorship for sending the team.
Earlier, on May 26, the Ri Bhoi Watersports and Tourism Cooperative Society Ltd had announced that the society will organise the Megha Kayak Festival 2022 on Umtrew River near Umtham village, Ri Bhoi from October 13-16, 2022.
