Shillong, Sept 29: Meghalaya Government on Wednesday announced the appointment of Rebecca V Suchiang, IAS, as the new Chief Secretary.

Suchiang was appointed on Wednesday as the current Chief Secretary, MS Rao, is retiring on September 30, 2021. She will be the first Khasi Woman to hold the Chief Secretary’s post.

Suchiang will officially assume charge of Chief Secretary’s office on September 30, 2021.

Suchiang is currently the Additional chief secretary in-charge Personnel & AR, cabinet affairs, finance, home (police) departments etc.

A notification issued by the Commissioner & Secretary in-charge Personnel & AR (A) R Lyngdoh on Wednesday said, “RV Suchiang…is posted as chief secretary to the Govt of Meghalaya with effect from the date of superannuation of MS Rao, chief secretary to the Government of Meghalaya i.e, on 30th September, 2021 on assumption of charge as chief secretary…”

It said that Suchiang will also function as state Vigilance Commissioner, Meghalaya.
