Kohima, Dec 11: The 25th edition of Nagaland’s iconic Hornbill Festival drew over 2.05 lakh visitors, marking a 33% surge in footfall compared to last year’s tally of 1.54 lakh. Among them were 2,527 foreign tourists, 54,036 domestic tourists from across India, and the rest from various parts of Nagaland.
This year’s silver jubilee celebration saw participation from country partners Japan, the U.S., the U.K. (Wales), and Peru, alongside partner states Sikkim and Telangana, according to an official from the state’s Department of Tourism and Art & Culture.
The festival featured performances from over 50 cultural troupes representing Nagaland’s diverse tribes and the eight northeastern states of India. Each of Nagaland’s recognised tribes showcased their distinct customs, attire, and traditions, adding to the rich cultural tapestry of the event.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio expressed his gratitude on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “The Hornbill Festival is a vibrant celebration of Nagaland’s culture. I thank all Partners, guests, and participants, who helped make the 25th Edition truly special. I hope you take a piece of our culture with you and be our ambassadors.”
