Shillong, Feb 19: National People’s Party (NPP) state president and deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday asked the people to reject political parties that spread lies and misinformation in the name of “jaidbynriew” and to vote back the NPP to power in the two autonomous district councils (ADCs) of Khasi and Jaintia Hills for all round development of the state.
He was addressing an election campaign at Pohkseh here, for garnering support to the KHADC chief and sitting MDC Pyniaid Sing Syiem, who is contesting from Nongthymmai constituency in the forthcoming ADC elections to be held on February 21.
Tynsong also remembered and paid huge respect to the former Nongthymmai MDC (L) Latiplang Kharkongor, who passed away last year, for his contribution to the district council and welfare of the people of the constituency.
The deputy CM urged the people to be vigilant and not get swayed by political parties, which are attempting to spread lies and misinformation in the name of love for the jaidbynriew and that they should reject them outrightly in this election.

“Saying that you can do whatever you want in your homeland is nothing but an attempt to mislead the people, especially the youth.”
Expressing concern over new trend of canvassing election in the state, Tynsong said, “If you look back at the history it was after the 2023 Assembly elections that you have witnessed the use of derogatory remarks and languages in political platforms and social media, which to a great extent have degrades the people and the state as a whole. This change of trend is not a good sign for the state. Let us judge for ourselves because the manner in which they are canvassing for the election is really a matter of concern”.
Stating that the ADC elections are very crucial, the NPP chief said, “We want the NPP to form the new executive committee because it is also leading the state government and it is important both of these to work together for the welfare and interest of the people and development of the state. If we also get to lead the EC in JHADC, it will no doubt be a big blessing for the people of the state. We have toured both Khasi and Jaintia Hills and we have seen people throng our meetings to show that they are reposing their faith in the NPP despite the allegations thrown at us from several quarters.”

Appealing to the people of Nongthymmai constituency to vote for Pyniaid Sing Syiem, Tynsong said, “Pyniaid is like a diamond for the jaidbynriew. You are lucky that he is willing to humble himself to the voice of the people and agreed to contest from such an intellectual constituency. Therefore, I request you to fully extend your support to him because he is the fittest among the candidates. Under his leadership, the KHADC has been able to pass many important Bills, which have now become Acts after getting the assent of the governor, for the protection of the indigenous community through the traditional institutions, clans etc.”
He also asked the people of the constituency to be wiser and vote for development saying, “I want to remind you that very recently we have laid the foundation stone at Mawdiangdiang for the purpose of shifting the secretariat at the cost of Rs 1200 crore to decongest the Shillong. Who will even dream that we will get a new secretariat, which on completion will be at par with the other states of the country. You are part of this mission to further develop the state and ensure it reaches greater heights in the coming years.”
Tynsong also highlighted the achievements of the NPP-led state government on the completion of long pending projects that include Vivanta Taj and Marriott hotels, roads constructed at Mawdiangdiang, New Shillong Township.
“You can go and see for yourself so that you know that we are not trying to fool you,” he said.
“We still have so many things to do for the state, which we want to do as a state government under the leadership of the chief minister. I just want to send a message to those, who knows only how to throw stones at us that it is okay because we from NPP we will not sleep but we will work for the development of each and every constituency of the state,” he said while asking the people of Nongthymmai to be ready to welcome more blessings their way if they elect Syiem as their representative in the KHADC.
