Shillong, Oct 8: The 27 stranded pilgrims from Meghalaya have successfully crossed the border from Bethlehem, Jerusalem, to Egypt, confirmed officials at the Indian Embassy in Ramallah, in collaboration with the Embassy of India in Cairo.
They said that currently they are en route to Taba and will proceed to Cairo before their scheduled flight with Oman Air, following their local visits in Egypt.
Speaking on the update on 27 pilgrims from Meghalaya in Israel, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said, “This successful evacuation has been achieved through the dedicated efforts of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Indian diplomatic mission. The citizens from Meghalaya, who were stranded amidst escalating tensions in the Israel-Palestine conflict zone, have now reached the safety of Egypt.
“We are relieved to know that officials on the ground have confirmed their entry into Egypt, ensuring the well-being of our citizens. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with them during their journey and their subsequent return home,” he added.
Earlier in the day, CM took to X saying that “as per the latest information and through the efforts of MEA and our Indian mission, our 27 citizens from Meghalaya, who were stuck in the war conflict zone of Israel and Palestine have safely crossed the border into Egypt.”

According to the latest update, the death count has surged to almost 1,000 after the Hamas launched a terror attack on Israel. The conflict has killed over 600 on the Israeli side, while Gaza reported at least 370 deaths.
