Renovated ‘Prerna Stal and Prerna Park’ in Shillong rededicated to 1971 war heroes

Shillong, March 22: The Indian Army held a solemn ceremony in Shillong on Friday (March 21) to pay tribute to the brave soldiers who fought in the 1971 Indo-Pak War, which led to the liberation of what was then East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). To mark the occasion, Lieutenant General Sanjay Malik, Sena Medal, General Officer Commanding 101 Area, rededicated the renovated ‘Prerna Stal and Prerna Park’ to the nation’s war heroes.

The event was attended by senior military dignitaries, veterans, and members of the armed forces, who gathered to honour the courage and sacrifice of the soldiers who participated in the historic conflict.

The newly renovated war memorial stands as a symbol of national gratitude, reflecting the spirit of dedication, sacrifice, and valour shown by the Indian Armed Forces during the war. It is intended to serve not only as a place of remembrance but also as a source of inspiration for future generations.

The ceremony featured a wreath-laying in honour of the fallen, followed by a light and sound show that highlighted key operations undertaken by the 101 Area during the 1971 war.

Officials announced that the war memorial will soon be opened to the public on weekends, allowing citizens to visit, reflect, and pay homage to the heroes who laid down their lives in service of the nation.
