Shillong, May 28: A fitness enthusiast but an even better sculptor, Pynshngaiñ Langpen’s sudden demise has shocked the Art fraternity and the community of Body Builders of Meghalaya. Condolences poured in from across the state towards the bereaved family as he left behind his wife, Teisha Slong and his two young children. He was taken to Robert’s Hospital on May 26th evening due to certain ailments and was detected of COVID 19. Subsequently, his health deteriorated and succumbed to the disease at around 1 AM on 27th May, 2021.
Pynshngaiñ Langpen completed his Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture from Kala Bhavan, Viswa Bharati University, Santiniketan and served as the Associate Professor in the B Ed College, Mynthong Jowai. He was active in the art and bodybuilding activities with several participation in national and regional art camps including the Thoh Shun International Art Exhibition at Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2007 under the aegis of Riti Academy o0f Visual Arts, the High Commission of India and the Greater Sylhet Indigenous Peoples’ Forum.
Moreover, Pynshngaiñ Langpen along with his colleague Banshemphang Lanong were involved in the sculpture projects of Riti Academy, including the bust statues of eminent personalities Jeebon Roy Mairom and Wickliffe Syiem. He was also instrumental in the renovation of the canopy of the monument at Motphran.
Pynshngaiñ Langpen was an avid muscle man with some accolades in body-building feats including the coveted Mr Meghalaya Championship 2015. Earlier, he had served in the Christian Teachers’ Training Center, Sohra for almost eight years as an art instructor.
