Shillong, Jan 26: In Jowai, Minister for Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department Shri. A.L. Hek unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute to the tune of the National Anthem led by JNV School, Mukhla at Jrisalein Playground in Jowai.
Addressing the gathering, he extended his greetings to the people on this momentous occasion. He reminded the citizens of the district of the struggle of our freedom fighters and also highlighted the achievement schemes implemented in the state.
20 contingents participated in the Republic Day parade, which included District Police Jowai, NCC contingents from JNV Mukhla, Government Girks Higher Secondary Schools, Jowai, West Jaintia Bharat Scouts & Guides, Jowai, and 15 schools.
Tableaus were also presented by 15 departments of the district, showcasing their achievements.
Latter, the Minister distributed certificates to the winning contingents: first prize, JNV Mukhla; second prize, St. Mary Mazzerrello Higher Seondary School, Jowai; and third prize, Government Boys Higher Seondary School, Jowai.
In the tableau presentation, District Horticulture Officer Jowai bagged the first prize, while District Commerce & Industries Centre Jowai and Divisional Soil and Water Conservation Officer Territorial Division Jowai secured the second and third prizes, respectively.
Awards were also presented to the top-performing PHC, where Sahsniang PHC was awarded as the best-performing public health centre (PHC) in the district for its performance and service under the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) and the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY).
Minister AL Hek also presented the award of appreciation to HAV Amplias Synnah and ABC/264 Arki Nikhla ANTF personnel in recognition for the service rendered by them.
Other highlights of the day include songs and dances performed by students and localities in Jowai Town, the distribution of food packages and gifts to children’s homes by government departments and social organisations, and a final football match played between Sabah Muswang SC and Footbal Academy of Meghalaya at Kiang Nangbah Stadium, Ladthalaboh.
While in Amlarem Civil Sub-Division, Republic Day was celebrated at Amlarem Government Lower Primary School Playground, Amlarem. The National Flag was unfurled by the Chief Advisor to the Government of Meghalaya, Shri. Lahkmen Rymbui, who took the Rashtriya Salute to the tune of the National Anthem led by Riwar Jaintia Church of God Secondary School, Jadjaplem.
Seven contingents took part in the parade, including the police department and six schools. It was then followed by a tableau presentation from eight departments.
