Shillong, Jan 25: In adherence to the powers vested under Section 52(1) of the Meghalaya Excise Act, which is an adoption of the Assam Excise Act, 1910, the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Tura, has declared a ‘DRY DAY’ on Friday (January 26, 2024), in honor of Republic Day celebrations.

As per the official directive, all retail Wine Shops, encompassing those selling both IMFL/Bar/Canteen and Bonded Warehouses, are mandated to remain closed throughout the entire district of West Garo Hills on the specified date.

The Excise staff has been tasked with ensuring strict compliance with the imposed ‘DRY DAY,’ aiming to uphold a sense of sobriety and respect for the Republic Day occasion. This move aligns with similar practices observed across the country during significant national events.
