Guwahati, July 2: Successful rescue operations have continued in several districts of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh after flood left several people marooned at different places.
In one such operation, personnel from 11 Assam Rifles and National Disaster Response Force rescued safely 70 students and five teachers along with others who were stranded in Bijoypur village in Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday.
In this operation specialized boats were used to ferry the stranded people across the flooded river from the village.
In another operation, 13 fishermen were airlifted in Tuesday morning from a riverine island on the Brahmaputra River in Dibrugarh district. These fishermen were marooned on the island following the flood on the river.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel from Mohanbari air base were tasked with the rescue operation and managed to airlift all the fishermen from the island. These fishermen were left isolated from the outside world on the island for the past four days due to the flood.
Dibrugarh West Revenue Circle officer, Deba Narayan Hazarika who coordinated with the IAF, said, all the rescued fishermen were administered first aid and sent to their respective homes.
