Guwahati, April 11: With Covid cases least in past 2 years, Assam is counting the days for the week-long biggest festival of the state – the Rongali Bihu- that marks the beginning of the Assamese New Year.
For the past 2 years, there were no public Rongali Bihu celebrations in Assam due to Covid waves but this time, the government has allowed celebrations like pre-Covid days without any restrictions.
The state government has also given ‘Bihu financial aid’ to Bihu organizers with a grant of Rs. 1.5 lakh.
The big budget Bihu organising committees with Rs. 40-50 lakh budget are back and price rise has prompted budgets to go up.
The Bihu economy is a one-time opportunity in the year for Bihu singers, dancers, musicians, cloth sellers and pandal decorators who are badly hit by 2 years of muted celebrations due to the pandemic.
This year’s Bihu starts from April 14, but spells of rain and thunderstorm might cast its shadows.
