Range Officer Animesh Kalita, along with forest staff, promptly arrived at the scene to investigate. Villagers from the Bondapara area have alleged that the elephant died due to electrocution.

According to locals, the deceased elephant was part of a herd of approximately 40-50 elephants. Since its death, the herd has been roaming within a one-kilometer radius of the carcass.

Arabinda Rabha, a resident of Bondapara, claimed that illegal encroachments into the reserve forest areas have contributed significantly to the growing human-elephant conflicts.

Meanwhile, anonymous villagers from the Boko region pointed to illegal activities such as nighttime forest land mining by smugglers using excavators, tractors, and dumpers as a key factor. These activities, they argue, frighten wild elephants and force them to change their resting areas, pushing them into villages and agricultural fields.

Speaking about the incident, Range Officer Kalita stated that veterinary doctors have preliminarily confirmed that the adult female elephant died of electrocution. He added that the elephant was pregnant with a male calf. Kalita assured that an investigation is ongoing and that those responsible for the incident will face necessary legal action.
