Shillong, May 1:In just a span of a month, four petrol bomb attacks have been reported, targeting a Police station, Police Reserve, a Government Official, and the residence of the Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya.
On April 3rd: Two unknown miscreants hurled a petrol bomb into Mawlai Police Station in the early hours of Wednesday, torching a police vehicle parked outside.
On April 24th: The escort vehicle of retired Major General Rajesh Kumar Jha, who is holding the post of NEEPCO director (personnel), faced a petrol bomb attack.
On April 26th: A petrol bomb was hurled at the residence of Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, Sniawbhalang Dhar, located in Nongmynsong, Shillong, by unknown miscreants.
On April 30th: The Jowai Police Reserve was under attack by a suspected petrol bomb, in which two vehicles including one Police Vehicle were damaged.
Surprisingly, the State Police have not made any arrests yet nor have any leads regarding the culprit(s) involved in all the above four cases.
The frequent petrol bomb attacks have raised a very serious concern among the public at large. However, why is it that only the Police and Government officials are being targeted?
Interestingly, if one can connect all the dots, it is clear that all four attacks occurred just after arrests of pressure group members were made in connection with a couple of murder cases in the State.
It might connect with the arrests; it might not… but the curious question lingers in every citizen: Is it Police failure or the Government of Meghalaya growing too soft?
