Tura, Feb 8: In an endevour to raise awareness on leprosy, a campaign was held on Saturday at Chandmari and Tura Super Market. The awareness programme titled as “Sparsh Leprosy Campaign 2025” aims to create awareness on symptoms, do’s and don’ts, myths and realities of the disease.
The programme organised under the aegis of National Health Mission, National Leprosy Eradication Programme was held in collaboration with Red FM Shillong. The statewide campaign began on January 30, which is observed as anti-leprosy day, and will culminate on February 13.
Apart from Shillong, Tura and Jowai, the campaign will be organised in different parts of the state.
RJ Saphi from Red FM chaired the programme in Tura, and conducted awareness on leprosy. She engaged with the public, who came out to witness the programme. Quiz related to the disease were held, and the winning participants were given prizes.
As part of the campaign, Singer Silbert Sangma and dancers from Shillong enthralled the crowd.
Speaking to Hub News Dr. Albert Sangma, SMHO & i/c District Leprosy Officer, said, “This kind of campaign is important to disseminate information on the disease and its development related to new cases, etc”.
Talking about the campaign, RJ Saphi said, “If the crowd is coming forward to participate, we understand that they are paying attention to what is being presented. So this kind of programs where we interact is very effective and it sends the positive information to the public directly.”
