Shillong, Oct 8: The Raid Laban Sports, Social, and Cultural Organisation (RLSSCO) felicitated students who topped their board examinations for the 2022 academic year at U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong, on Saturday.
The 20th Meritorious Award for Students 2023 featured a ceremony in which 42 students who secured top positions in different Board Examinations, were awarded laptops. The awards were presented by the local MLA and president of RLSSCO, Sanbor Shullai.
Speaking to reporters, MLA Sanbor informed that this year’s felicitation ceremony by RLSSCO recognized 293 students from Laban Constituency who successfully passed various Board Examinations in the 2022 academic year. He further mentioned that out of these 450 students, 42 emerged as toppers in various Board Exams, including MBOSE, ICSE, CBSE, ISC, and other Boards, and were honored with laptops to encourage them towards further success in the future.
He added that over the past 20 years, nearly 10,000 students from the constituency have been recognized by RLSSCO.
Shullai further explained that these awards are not limited to students who excel in board exams but are also extended to Below Poverty Line (BPL) students, irrespective of their position (be it first, second, or third). This initiative aims to motivate underprivileged students to view academics as a means to achieve their goals. Shullai noted that some BPL students hail from families unable to afford their education. Therefore, awards like these play a crucial role in instilling hope and encouraging them to continue their education.
The students were honoured by the Chief Guest, Manas Chaudhuri, the ex-MLA, along with school Principals and the incumbent MLA himself. The event was attended by a large gathering of students and residents from the Laban Constituency.
