Tura, Dec 9: With the music and songs of international rock band Europe still reverberating in the hearts of the people of Garo Hills, a rock music contest titled “Rock Under the Sun” BEAT Contest is set to take place on December 19 and 20 at Asanang Field in Rongram in Garo Hills.
Organized by the Garo Hills Rock FEST Management Society, the contest aims to promote rock culture among the youth, fostering unity and diversity through music.
Speaking about the initiative, Bruno A. Sangma, vocalist of the local rock band Blind Creed (formerly Eye2Eye) and a member of the organizing society, said, “The contest is being organized for the youth to promote Rock culture for unity and diversity. With the emerging challenges from pop and hip hop music taking center stage, Rock and Roll music is taking a back seat with youngsters disbanding the Rock music scenario. So we are keen to promote Rock music and Rock Bands so that youngsters pick up their guitars and drums and unite for one cause and imbibe this path of exciting journey.”
The Garo Hills Rock FEST Management Society comprises prominent local rock bands such as Blind Creed, Flames of Revolution, and RichRocker, with support from the district administration and local entrepreneurs. Sponsors include Fantas Music Shillong, Gastronomic Garden, Sam Studio, A.Timbo Resort, and Powerlite, among others.
The winner will get Rs. 50,000, second place winner Rs. 30,000, and third place winner will take home Rs 20,000. There are also individual awards of Rs. 10,000 each for the Best Vocalist, Best Lead Guitarist, Best Bassist, and Best Drummer.
With Garo Hills quickly gaining fame for hosting legendary artists from across the world, the “Rock Under the Sun” BEAT Contest is anticipated to reignite passion for rock music and provide a platform for talented young musicians in Garo Hills to showcase their skills.
