Guwahati, Mar 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday approved the establishment of a semiconductor unit in Assam’s Morigaon district that will provide advanced semiconductor requirements to the world, including Elon Musk-led electric vehicle maker, Tesla.
The cabinet chaired by PM Modi approved that the Assam unit, which is the biggest private investment in the state so far, will be set up by Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt Ltd at an estimated cost of Rs 27,000 crore.
Reacting to this, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that this is the biggest private investment with full central subsidy in Assam. He applauded PM Modi and said that the People of Assam will remember him for ages to come for giving the state this project.
CM Sarma said that this unit will provide 15,000 direct employment and atleast 11,000 to 16,000 indirect jobs in the state.
