Shillong, Dec 3: Following complaints of depilated road and drainage system and leakage pipes along the Them Iew Mawlong road, South Shillong constituency legislator Sanbor Shullai conducted an inspection of the area on Saturday.
Shullai inspected the road from Anjali Petrol Pump up to Them Iew Mawlong along with officials from PHE, PWD, Shillong Municipal and Shillong Traffic Police.
Shullai said the inspection revealed significant concerns regarding the safety of pedestrians due to the dilapidated condition of the road. The footpaths were also prone to flooding due to inadequate drainage systems.
He also shared that the state government has allocated Rs 1.63 crores to the PWD for road repairs from Anjali Petrol Pump to Them Iew Mawlong. However, before commencing road repairs, the PHE, Shillong Municipal, and Shillong Cantonment must address the pipe leakages along the route.
“During the inspection, we identified pipe leakages owned by individuals and a few by the Shillong Cantonment. On December 4, we will hold discussions with the Cantonment to strategize the repair process,” he said.
He further stated that road repairs would only commence after addressing the pipe leakages. He also urged residents of Them Iew Mawlong to cooperate with the concerned departments to ensure a smooth and timely completion of the repair work, without encountering opposition.
