Dibrugarh, Dec 9: A security guard employed at an SBI ATM died after allegedly shooting himself with his service rifle on Monday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Jiten Saikia, a resident of Enajori Path in the Gandhi Nagar area of Dibrugarh.
According to police, Saikia fired a shot at his own leg, causing critical injuries. He was rushed to the hospital in a serious condition but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Speaking on the incident, Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police Rakesh Reddy said.
“We have come to know that the person was suffering from psychiatric-related problems. He sustained severe injuries and died during treatment.”
The exact reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained, and police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the tragic event.
