Shillong, May 7: The Shillong Cricket Association B (SCA-B) team clinched the title at the MCA U-16 Boys’ Inter-District Tournament 2025 with a commanding eight-wicket victory over Tura District Cricket Association (TDCA) in the final held in Jowai on Wednesday. The tournament was organised by the Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA).
After winning the toss, Tura opted to bat in the one-day final, which had been reduced to 42 overs per side. However, they were bowled out for just 106 in 41.4 overs. In response, SCA-B chased down the target with ease, reaching 107/2 in only 22.2 overs.
The star of the match was Suraj Chettri, who anchored the chase with a brilliant unbeaten 71 off 79 balls. His innings, studded with 10 fours and a six, accounted for 65% of his team’s runs in the final.
Tura’s Aniket Poddar was the lone bright spot with the ball, taking both wickets to fall (2/41 in 8 overs). He also top-scored for his side with a resilient 31 not out off 44 balls. Doangkam Ch Marak contributed 25 from 23 deliveries, but the rest of the TDCA lineup failed to provide meaningful support.
For SCA-B, the bowling attack was led by Arav Baraily (3/17 in 9.4 overs), Navneet Sah (2/4 in 6), and Piyush Ray (2/14 in 4), who collectively dismantled the Tura batting order.
The final was graced by several dignitaries, including Jowai MLA and MUDA Chairman Wailadmiki Shylla, Assistant Director of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs Khroobok Passah, MCA Honorary Secretary Rayonald Kharkamni, and members of the West Jaintia Hills District Cricket Association, among others.
The tournament began on April 15, with group-stage matches held in Jowai and Mendipathar. In Monday’s semifinals, TDCA edged out Ri-Bhoi DCA by 20 runs in a low-scoring clash in Mendipathar, while SCA-B cruised past East Khasi Hills CA by nine wickets in Jowai to book their place in the final.
