Shillong, May 27: The West Jaiñtia Hills District Administration on Monday announced the closure of all schools on Tuesday (May 28) due to heavy rains and winds from Cyclone Remal.
B.S. Sohliya, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of West Jaiñtia Hills, stated in a notification that the order to close schools in the district is in light of the adverse weather conditions caused by Cyclone Remal. The IMD has forecasted heavy rains and strong winds for our district, making it imperative to prioritize the safety and well-being of students, teachers, and school staff.
The West Jaiñtia Hills District Administration also instructed school authorities to ensure that all school buildings and infrastructure are secured to prevent any damage. The DC directed that any objects that could become projectiles in strong winds should be removed. Schools were also asked to relocate all important documents and electronic equipment to safer areas within the premises.
Schools were also directed to inform parents and guardians about the closure through available communication channels, including phone calls, SMS, emails, and social media platforms, to ensure that children remain at home and safe during this period.
