Search and Rescue team recovers body of man who jumped into Umiam dam

Shillong, March 24: The body of a man who jumped into Umiam Dam was recovered on Monday by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team and Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) personnel.

According to police reports, the man had jumped into the dam near the main bridge on Sunday at around 2:30 PM. Despite extensive efforts, the SDRF team and F&ES personnel were unable to recover the body by late evening.

The operation continued the following day and the team successfully retrieved the body on Monday at approximately 1:50 PM.

The deceased has been identified as Pritish Deb, husband of Silanda Mylliemngap, a resident of Laban, Kench’s Trace, Shillong. He owned an electronics shop at Last Stop, Laban.

Legal formalities are being completed, and an investigation is underway.
