Tura, May 12: West Garo Hills police had a trying time maintaining law and order as people continue to violate health guidelines and protocols to check covid infections. The most glaring violation occurred in the highly populated river town of Phulbari located in the heart of the plains belt zone of West Garo Hills district.

On Wednesday morning a number of traders and customers, angry with the containment rules, vented their anger out on the police and magistrate by throwing stones when they were ordered to leave the market area.

Today morning at around 10.30 AM, we received information that some shopkeepers and customers of non-essential shops have gathered in large numbers, in Phulbari Bazar who were not allowed to open shop since it was a containment zone. Accordingly, the Circle Inspector cum Officer in Charge of Phulbari police station along with the BDO reached the place to take stock of the situation. The gathered people got violent and a few miscreants hurled stones at some shops nearby due to which one shop got minor damage, and 3 persons received simple injury. They were safely taken for medical care by Police,” informed M Raghavendra Kumar, West Garo Hills SP.

“Immediately SDPO Dadenggre was directed to proceed to Phulbari to take stock of the situation and to ensure appropriate preventive measures and deployment. Deployment has been done and the overall situation is normal under Control and close watch,” announced the SP.
