Guwahati, June 28: Major General Praveen Badrinath, Chief Engineer from Headquarters Eastern Command located at Kolkata along with Brig Manoj Gupta, Chief Engineer of Project Swastik of BRO visited extensively damaged road stretches of landslides-hit areas of North Sikkim on Friday.
The BRO has been working out a plan and methodology for the speedy restoration of road connectivity to Dzongu Region, Lachen and Lachung.
The options for having a permanent solution to this periodic problem by having all-weather connectivity to North Sikkim are also being explored by the experts of BRO and army engineers.
The command chief engineer said that Phidang Bridge provides connectivity to Dzongu Region as well as Lachung and Lachen areas of North Sikkim.
The 320-foot state-of-the-art Bailey Suspension bridge over the mighty Teesta River is a long-awaited addition to the transportation network and promises to enhance connectivity and facilitate smoother travel for commuters and vehicles. Its strategic location is expected to bolster economic activities and improve accessibility to essential services for the remote population of Dzongu area.
During the visit, the senior officer emphasized that infrastructure is seen as a vital step towards driving growth, creating opportunities, and improving the quality of life for citizens in far-flung areas.
The newly-constructed bridge stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of all parties including state administration and signifies a positive shift towards a more connected and prosperous future for the region. The community eagerly anticipates the positive impact that this infrastructure development will bring to their daily lives.
Major General Badrinath also visited the furious Namak Nallah, which caused a formation breach of 180m during the recent flood and was restored by BRO with lightning speed.
He appreciated the men working hard on the ground for their efforts.
Supporting the efforts of BRO and local administration in restoring connectivity and getting normalcy back to areas cut off due to recent floods in Sikkim, army engineers of Trishakti Corps constructed a 70 feet Bailey Bridge on road Dikchu-Sanklang braving incessant rains & challenging technical constraints.
Responding to the calls for rebuilding efforts, the army engineers constructed a Bailey bridge at Dett Khola on the Dikchu-Sanklang axis. The work started on June 23 and was completed within 72 hours, working under challenging weather conditions.
The bridge is an important link to enable vehicular traffic from Dikchu to Sanklang towards Chungthang. The bridge will assist in providing necessities including critical medical aid for the affected people of Mangan district.
Sikkim forest minister Pintso Namgyal Lepcha visited the site on June 27 and appreciated the efforts of the Indian Army in completing the bridge at a fast pace.
