Shillong, July 22: The Chairman of All India Power Engineers Federation, Shailendra Dubey, has urged the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K Sangma to appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to not take the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2022 to the Parliament without proper discussions with the engineers.

The Chairman made this request at the General Conference of the MeECL Engineer Association which was held on Thursday Pinewood Hotel, Shillong.

“We strongly urged the Chief Minister of Meghalaya to have a discussion with the Prime Minister of India with regard to this case along with all the the other ministers,” stated Dubey while talking to the reporters after the conference.

“Till date the central government and the Ministry of Power has never called for a discussion be it in terms of usage of electric boarding or in terms of the workers of the electric boarding. The changes are to be made in bringing about change in the boarding law of the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2022,” he said.

Furthermore, he said the Bill is expected to be brought to the Parliament without proper discussions with the workers of the concerned department.

At the same time, the Association of the Engineer of the state under the National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees & Engineers (NCCOEEE), Meghalaya Unit, also agreed to the decision to rise against this if not discussed properly.

The NCCOEEE also informed that the case will be taken to the Parliament on behalf of the 27 lakh workers of the department to rise against the proposed bill.

Regarding the decision of the government to install smart meters, Dubey said this will hamper the employment set of the youth who go around to give away the bill meters or meter readers of every household along with the youth who collect the money of the electric bording because after the implementation of the bill all these works will be replaced by the internet facilities.
