Tura, March 7: Sherwood School in Tura pre-celebrated International Women’s Day, more than 350 students participated in the event and 45 teachers wore the pink attire to mark the day.
The girls and women of the school dressed in pink, the male teachers, too, have embraced the spirit of the day by wearing pink, a gesture of solidarity and support. This is not just about a colour; it is about a statement, that declares the importance of women’s rights, equality, and empowerment, said Tasha Ann Beddoe Sawkmie, Headmistress, Sherwood School, Tura.
Pink is labelled as a “girls’ colour.” But today, we break that stereotype. Pink is not just a colour it is a symbol. It represents compassion, strength, kindness, and resilience. It is the colour of empowerment, of nurturing leadership, and of the courage that women show every single day in their lives. By wearing pink, we do not reinforce a gendered notion; rather, we redefine it as a colour of power and inclusivity for all, the principal stated.
International Women’s Day is more than just a day of celebration; it is a movement, a reminder that women deserve equal opportunities, respect, and recognition. It is about teaching our young boys and girls that fairness and equality must be the foundation of their beliefs and actions. We want our students to grow up knowing that gender should never be a barrier to success, that respect should be universal, and that every individual regardless of gender deserves the right to dream, achieve, and lead, she further added.
