Shillong, Jan 21: The Livestock Conclave at Shillong will bring together policymakers, experts, and stakeholders to drive sustainable growth in the region’s livestock sector.
The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying (FAHD), is organising Livestock Conclave 2025, themed “Dialogue for Holistic Development of the Livestock Sector in North East India”. The two-day conclave will take place on January 23–24 in Shillong.
The conclave will help guide policy formulation, drive investments, and promote sustainable practices. The outcomes are expected to boost rural livelihoods and contribute to the economic growth of the North East Region.
The event will be graced by Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel, Minister of State for FAHD and Panchayati Raj, and George Kurian, Minister of State for FAHD & Minority Affairs. Conrad K. Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, will also participate, along with Ministers of Animal Husbandry & Dairy Development from North East Region (NER) states.
The conclave will be graced by Alka Upadhyaya, Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, along with senior officials, Principal Secretaries from NER states, scientists, NGOs, and private industry leaders.
The Livestock Conclave aims to address pressing challenges and unlock the vast potential of the livestock and poultry sector in North East India. Several development initiatives and Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) will be signed to promote private-sector investment in livestock and poultry.
Stakeholders will explore ways to strengthen value chains, adopt technological innovations, and design policy frameworks for sustainable growth.
The event will also facilitate knowledge sharing and capacity building among farmers, entrepreneurs, researchers, and policymakers, emphasizing inclusive farming practices aligned with the One Health approach.
Government initiatives aimed at revolutionizing the sector including the Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund, Entrepreneurship Development Programme, and Rashtriya Gokul Mission will be showcased.
