Shillong, July 31: Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri on Wednesday visited the JN Stadium in Shillong to inspect preparations for the upcoming Durand Cup 2024 matches. For the first time, Shillong will host six matches of this historic football tournament.
The inaugural match, set for August 2 at 4:00 PM, will see Shillong Lajong face off against the Tribhuvan Army Football Club at the JN Stadium. The opening ceremony promises to be a grand event, featuring Air Force display teams, dance performances, and musical extravaganzas.
After his inspection, the sports minister assured that approximately 98 percent of the preparations are complete and that everything will be ready for the opening. He also encouraged sports enthusiasts in the state to attend the event and support the participating teams.
The Durand Cup, being held in Shillong for the first time, marks a significant moment for local sports fans and is expected to draw considerable attention.
