Shillong, Oct 23: Shillong’s Supercare Hospital has become the first hospital in Meghalaya to get full National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) accreditation.
Supercare Hospital’s founder and Managing Director Dr. R. S. Thangkhiew said the NABH accreditation strengthens the vision of Supercare Hospital: “To set the standard in quality healthcare, healing, and comfort” as well as the hospital’s mission: “To provide a responsive healing environment for patients and their families and to improve the quality of life for all members of our community.”
Dr Thangkhiew said he along with his team wants to give the people of Meghalaya and the North-East Region of India the care and facilities that are found in every modern health establishment across the country and the world.
“With every passing season, we acquire more state-of-the-art and cutting-edge equipment and hire the best human resources available. Supercare aims to be a torchbearer in new treatments, methodologies, and philosophies concerning health and health services, while also ensuring that the foundational values of healthcare remain our strength,” he said.
The NABH is a constituent board of the Quality Council of India (QCI), set up to establish and operate accreditation programmes for healthcare organizations. The NABH is an institutional member as well as a board member of the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua). Hospitals accredited by the NABH get international recognition. The NABH standards are currently the highest benchmark standard for hospital quality in India.
There are mainly two versions of the standards for allopathic hospitals: the full NABH – suitable for large specialty and tertiary care level hospitals, and entry-level NABH – meant mainly for smaller hospitals that do not have the infrastructure and resources to comply with the full NABH.
Supercare Hospital received the NABH Entry-Level certification on October 5, 2021, and then secured the full NABH accreditation on September 29, 2022.
This certification is valid up to September 30, 2026. Patients are the biggest beneficiaries from both the full NABH accreditation and the entry-level certification, as it results in a high quality of care and patient safety. Patients are served by credential medical staff. The rights of patients are respected and protected.
Patient satisfaction is regularly evaluated. Quality accreditations and certifications also benefit the staff of the hospital as it provides for continuous learning, a good working environment, leadership, and above all ownership of clinical processes.
