Shillong, June 15: Meghalaya Arts and Culture Minister Sanbor Shullai has opined that the department of Arts & Culture should hand over the construction work of the Amphitheater at Moolasyat, Jowai to the Dorbar Shnong of Moolasyat and the Jaiñtia Students’ Union (JSU) because the government has recklessly ignored the construction site for 5 years without functioning.

“This is just a wastage of public money from the department in-charge, the Amphitheater which should have been made to be used by the public was left dormant ever since 2017…this has only damaged the indoors and outdoors of the theater,” he said.

Since the Arts & Culture Department wasn’t able to activate the amphitheatre for 5 years, he felt that the Dorbar Shnong along with the JSU should send in a memorandum to take over the facility from the department to get the necessary requirements such as electricity, parking spaces in place,.

The Minister said that he will call for an enquiry concerning the dormancy of the amphitheater or if there may be any misappropriation of funds or hidden agendas behind this.
